After leaving Serpentine Hot Springs we went back to Nome to refuel.
They mine for GOLD on the beach using various contraptions, and one of the locals said the place they stay looks like "Sanford and Sons". Most of the gold mining places do.
They have just started a new mine outside of town, they also mine the rivers here too. But in the early 1900 the beach was it. They said each man had a 6 foot place to mine and the beach was packed with miners!
